The rules allowed the cars to run without bumpers. On the kit there is a void between the taillight panel and the rear valance where the bumper is installed. Fabricated a filler panel also removed the molded in parking lights and the license plate from the rear valance.

Very nice JC, and it looks accurate. The car you're building looks very similar to the original Mustang the Comstock team ran for Craig Fisher in '64, before they got their hands on the GT350. I have a photo of that car if you're interested.

Thanks Paul. Yes would love to see the photo of the Comstock car.

I think this was as much a publicity shot for Toronto's new city hall, which would have been brand new at the time. (57 yrs later and the roof still leaks).
This car ran under CASC rules, so it would be a bit different to the US versions at the time. No love lost between CASC and SCCA, then or now.

I notice it has a hood scope which was not allowed by SCCA. Doesn't appear to have a roll hoop.

There was an additional bump on the hood on that car only, I don't know what it was for. Also the side glass, including the vent window and frame was removed.
I printed up a decal set for that car, but I don't have a notchback kit to build. Maybe get around to it one day.

Wheel/tire mockup - looks pretty good. Wheel openings will need to to be modified.

So the Racing Mustangs book that i have states the Comstock Shelby is the third one made 5R096 and was equipped with webers . the large hump was for a bigger radiator and cap.

Thanks Bill. They are Holman Moody wheels out of a Polar Lights kit.
The GT350R came with a radiator out of a Galaxie If I recall correctly - and they needed bigger?

Still work to do to create tire clearance in the fenders and get the wheels tucked in at the front but she is standing on her own.

Regarding the "bump" on the hood. Competition GT350's came with a high-rise intake manifold. I believe the "bump" is actually a scoop that was intended to feed air to the four-barrel carburetor.

It's not a scoop Jim, at least not on the Comstock cars. It has to be there for clearance for something underneath. A rad cap seems a bit odd, but sure, if it stuck up enough?
