Hello, Here is what I hope to be a simpler project. Darth Vader's personal ship. The TIE Advanced X1. It is meant to be an evolution of the TIE line of ships. TIE stands for Twin Ion Engines. There are far better kits out there, but I had the old AMT/ERTL kit from 1997 laying around. It is supposed to be 1/36 scale. The molds date back to 1978. This kit has been released a gazillion times as MPC, AMT, ERTL, Revell, Kenner and many more. AMT is my least favorite brand of kits. Especially in the late 90's until well into the 21st century, the moldings were horrible. Mis-aligned molds, pinholes, severe flash, mis-molded parts etc. There is really not much to be done to these kits. So this will be the closest I can get to "box stock". Just an exercise in clean building techniques and paint. Speaking of paint, that is currently what is holding me right now. Very hard to find hobby paints now. Heavy molding? Nahh.... After some heavy cleanup, test fitting the parts is a joke. Here is the fit using the kit's location pins So I eliminated the location pins for better control. Looking better already but this will take a lot of sanding and fitting. Thanks, Ismael

“The Force is strong with this one.”
Those are some impressive mold runners! Time to break out the belt sander!
I have to really want a subject if I decide to put up with the headaches of an AMT kit. Watching with interest!

Hello, Spending quite some time re-scribing panel lines. A bit hard to see but here I have the left side done, untouched right side. Right side when looking from the front The 2 piece Vader figure is... well, probably the worst rendering I've seeing of him. Not to mention the globs of putty needed. At least it will barely be visible if at all. Hand painted. Multiple sheens of black, a hint of red in the eyes, drybrushed the molded cape for contrast. Sitting in a fighter cabin or in a toilet... constipated? Thanks, Ismael

Hello, Funny: Guess what: This has been reissued now with updated parts, a new figure and added details. Oh well. I'm not spending a single more cent so fixing the old one it is. Thanks, Ismael

Hello, This kit is making me hate AMT even more than before. I mean, was this really meant to be assembled? This is as close to unbuildable as you can get. Feast your eyes in this tiny little gap. or this one: Loosing interest really fast but the subject is keeping me on track. Will slap it together, fix the gaps and call it done. The interior which will not be seen is ever so slightly better. Thanks, Ismael

Maybe the kit was designed on a Monday after a long weekend of drinking, hence Vader's attitude! Ben

Hello, And the award for the WORST engineered kit ever goes to... I won't bother you with frequent updates on this, but let's say this model may soon have more putty than styrene as the main material Inside Top: Inside Bottom: Top and bottom: And after what seemed like 2 eternities and dozens of bodywork/primer pases, with the finished cockpit installed from the beginning... As I have said many times before, when bodywork is good enough that you feel you can go to straight to paint without primer, then you are ready for primer. When your primer is good enough that you consider painting is not really needed and you are tempted to leave it at that, then and only then, you may be ready for paint. The re-scribing came out very nice. Some lines were filled and new lines scribed for proper alignment. I think we are ready for paint now. Thanks, Ismael

Even though this is a, shall we say, challenging build, I am quite certain that it will make a nice shelf model. It will also get you in the mood to watch Andor. 😃

Ismael, Just another one of your builds that truly shows off your skills and talent. Great job on rescribing. I still can't believe that you got it this far. It was my kit, it would have been at the recycling center long, long ago.
