This is another, not restoration, but a resurrection. I got this kit from Patrick (pnance), and in fairness, he did warn me. I don't know if he started it or someone else did, but I figured I'd try to finish it. I wanted a T2, so it's a Protar or a transkit, and the transkits are a stupid price. So, while waiting for the Bugatti to arrive, I gave it a shot. This is what I had to start with:
plus this:
It seems to be all there. That black thing is Protar's idea of a wiring/plumbing harness. Yuk!

First thing I noticed was that whatever it's painted with, they should have used it on the Space Shuttle. It will not come off!!

Step 1, I removed the bits and most of the vinyl wiring, gave the engine a very light MigAmmo gunmetal wash
And gave the tub a Mig pigment rub over the aluminum paint, with some fixer:
Not as shiny as it should be, but we'll call this one a very well used (and repaired) race car!
The U-joint was broken so I drilled it out and inserted a styrene rod, you won't see it. Lots more of that to come, this plastic is old and so brittle it's unworkable.

Lots of this stuff to do - everything is either broken, or about to be
Transmission repainted (with an engine grime wash) and re-assembled
Coolers and tanks - mostly I stripped and repainted the chrome bits
At this point, if you know your Ferrari's, you will notice parts of the chassis are missing. Apparently Protar figured you didn't need them.

I'm fighting a similar battle with certain black paint from hell, which could have well been applied with a roller on a 1/25 scale model Looking good so far! Thanks, Ismael

Well, how can I put this? I don't think I painted the red... but I did put the vinyl harness in place. Beyond that, I'm not sure if this kit was started when I bought it. It sat in the pile for so long...
And if anyone can resurrect this piece of shite, it would be you, Paul! Protar made some good kits in their day but this one isn't holding up well. I mean, styrene gets brittle after 50 years? Whoda thunk it?
I'll be interested in seeing what happens here!

Sometimes it's just easier to make a new one than try to repair the old one:
The body shell has a coat of white paint, which only comes off with some careful rubbing with lacquer thinners. I have no idea what the red is that's underneath:

So the engine compartment pretty much together, and the roll bar installed according to the instructions and the mounting points on the chassis. It will get broken, but I don't care as I already know the body won't fit over it, it's at least 3/8ths too far forward.
And I have this to build a rear suspension from. The gold paint will not come off.

The front suspension, almost everything is broken, worse still, the mounting points on the chassis are also broken / missing, so no reference. I have a Tamiya 312T parts kit, but it's completely incompatible, so I gave up and decided to just scratch out something that will look like the real thing, most of it covered by the nose cone anyway.
Lots of this going on - I used tubing with a steel wire inside for re-inforcement:
Getting there, more things kept breaking!
So I ended up with this:
Lots of toothpics and no screws!!

So, all of that was put on hold for Christmas, then the Bugatti finally arrived.
I decided I'd work on both of them.

Fast forward as I forgot to take pics for a bit.
Rear suspension pretty much complete. Just scratch built whatever to make it work:
Prepped and painted the sidepods, they fit quite well with some persuasion:
The exhausts are a @&%*## joke, but they're done (give me Tamiya anytime.......pleeese!)
And how it sits, as of now:

Great work on your challange for the year. At what point am I old enough to know better?
