Patrick, Outstanding progress for sure on those subassemblies. Was the suspension connecting rod missing that you have to fabricate one, or more like a Joel screw up? joel It is not missing, Joel, in fact you can see it lying under the left tire. It is just too short to reach between the transmission mounts and the uprights. And this is one of those deals were there is NO way I could have assembled the entire thing and known it would be off... well, I say that but I am sure that it is another lesson to be learned! MFH has all these little easter eggs. I am sure that Paul (2whl) and Wolfie (arcticwolf) and Chris Smith have that all figured with their experience. As for me, well this is my second MFH (the first was a REAL learning curve). I think that the Brabham BT45 will be something else again! Thanks for your comments!

A little work this weekend... Dials faces in place just waiting for clear glue to dry... In place in cockpit... Rear end is finished... only made two major mistakes... I ended up shortening one of the drive shafts to get the proper stance and to close the distance for the upper arm. Business end connection to engine... Front suspension complete... As always, your comments and criticisms are welcome.

First, I couldn't justify spending the money on a kit like this. Second, if I did, I would be scared to death to even touch it. 🤣
Those like you, Paul, and others have my greatest respect. You turn these kits into museum quality builds. I guess that was the goal of the manufacturer, to offer the chance to build something of that quality.
Beautiful work on this....
Maybe Paul would trade me one for all my AMT kits..... 😁

Patrick, both the front and rear suspensions really do look the part. I'd say that you've put in the work to attain a high standard of finish, and it sure shows. joel

This is just my second kit and this is the second time I have had to deconstruct something I thought was finished because of a major mistake! And they both had to do with the suspensions and parts incorrectly placed. Thank goodness for Un-Glue It! Applied delicately, it helps a lot! And just because they are an awesome kit, they also have lots of issues where one learns humility and improvisation! Thanks for hanging in there with me! And trust me, these things are like Lay's potato chips... you can't eat just one. I have a third kit on order. And I would love nothing more than to empty my shop of every other kit, be it space, or airplane, or automobile and do nothing but MFH until I am forced to stop!

I only screwed up twice in a major way, once on each suspension. It required some delicate reworking! What's new on your palate?

I have questions about painting resin as I have many pieces to do from two kits (soon to be three). I need a step by step tutorial please.
I know about prepping resin by giving it a Polident bath and rinse.
After that, is it necessary to do any kind of sanding?
Then, let’s talk primers. I’m using MCW paints most likely which are acrylic lacquers. No thinning is needed. But should be used as a primer? Should I use MLT in the primer or in the paint itself?
The paint is on so now I polish? With? Do I use clear now?
When do decals go on? And do they get a clear coat as well?
I know it’s a ton of questions but I’m willing to learn!
I’m used to just rattle cans on styrene and so resin is all new to me!

There is not much difference between painting plastic and painting resin. It all in the prep work. “I use Tamiya spray primer!” And I have no problem painting Gravity paint over it. I only use gravity paint for color and clear. I do know some have used Tamiya rattle can on resin with great results. Your over thinking the process, if you keep saying to your self I just spent 5-600 or more on a model, and I don’t want to ruin it. Remember you can always start over. Lacquer thinner doesn’t damage the resin like it would on plastic. Do what your comfortable using and STOP stressing! 😉

Patrick, As Chris said, paint it exactly as you would Plastic. Biggest difference is that Resin is a lot more brittle and will break much, much easier. Also, wear a mask when sanding it. Try to use a vac as close as possible to your sanding area.

Rivets... so I said, this needs rivets... Like I need a hole in my head. I spent most of the weekend (around 6 hours) doing this insanity... I brought it on myself... 475 rivets later and I still don't have the side pods done. Why? And the BT45 has just as many! Anyway, here they are... I had to putty in some holes that were too large and the rivets just fell through. I have to trim the backsides next weekend. I also learned a valuable lesson to be transferred to the next time... put down a tape line so you don't get any waves in the rivet line. Hopefully when it all get painted white that will be less obvious. Hell of a thing to be learning this on a $550 kit! This last photo is with primer so you can see the putty still on the left side of the center section. I think with a slight hit more of primer that won't be an issue. As always, your comments are welcome.

Patrick, Those 475 rivets look great. Pretty darn straight especially if it's done only by eye. joel

I think it looks aone hell of a lot better than the "dimples" that are supposed to represent rivets. Concave dimples instead of convex rivets... makes no send whatsoever... For the Brabham, I may go to a slightly bigger head rivet. These are .7 mm and I can get some .5mm. That might be a better choice. I can also go .6mm if I wanted. Thanks for your words!

Patrick, I may have missed it but did you ever figure out why the top body shell did not fit properl and other than MFH where would you source your rivets. I have an MFH 312-b that i would like to start on but the rivets included with it,to me at least, appear overly large. Your build is looking great. Steve

I haven't gotten that far again with fitment on the top shell... I think I know part of the problem was operator error! As to the rivets, there are two ways to go and both from the same person... his name is Tom Anyz and here is his link: anyz.io/shopIf you have a resin printer, you can buy a download from him for all his products. It is an STL file to make your own. OR You can buy the rivets from him. He custom makes them per order. I used the .7mm but I think I might go .5mm on the Brabham when I get to it. One STL file has all three sizes of rivet heads. I will make that decision when I need to do so. I ordered 1000 rivets from him and they are tiny things. I will try to do a perspective photo this weekend. Thanks for looking and asking!
