Jim, Thanks for this exciting info. I'm going to assume that at least for the 1st moldings that they Salvino Jr will be using the basic dimensions of the 92/93 Lola especially the suspension. I finally broke down and bought their 2023 Ford Mustang Penske/Logano Penzoil car since I've been a Team Penske fan since 1967. I'm not a fan of the tri color plastic that all of their kits have with decals having the secondary color of the paint scheme so you don't have to paint the car!! At least the Penzoil decals don't have this unwanted feature. I've watched 2 full builds on You tube of noted Nascar builders doing Larson's car, and Blaney's car, and both used the molded color along with those decals. Both had issues with the decals to some degree, and one just did a horrid job to be perfectly honest. Apparently, gone is the days of just molded White plastic. for the other cars I want to model, I'll be using AM decals. I guess that Salvino jr will be following the same process for the Indy Car decals, so for the most part I'll be using nearly all Indy Cal decals (which I basically do now). joel If it makes you feel any better about the decals Michael from Indycals said he is involved with the project.

Jim, boy am I with you on that one. But so far Salvino jr. has picked winner after winner in terms of direction and execution.
I've been lurking on a few other sites and I believe you posted the best answer to this question so far. The fact that the F1 modeling world is basically 1/20 scale, and perhaps to tap into that source, 1/20 scale would make the most sense.
For me, I just want to start building Indy cars again. Hopefully, there will be more information coming as to an approximate 1st release date sooner then later.

1/20th I can live with. 1/12th would be a lot better.
1/25th I wouldn't spend a dime on normally for an open wheeler, they're bad enough as a prototype or GT to work with.

Paul, Actually, I'd love 1/20 scale for GT cars, but that's just never gonna happen. joel

Hello,
Sad to hear it is 1/20. I'm sure there is a reason and a market behind it. I wouldn't mind 1/25 or 1/24. But zero interest in 1/20 scale.
Thanks, Ismael

I buy the subject, not the scale.

Ismael, Right now the going guess is that the majority of open wheel builders are F1, not Indy Car, and the majority of F1 kits are 1/20 scale. So going with 1/20 scale gives them the chance to get some of the F1 market to delve into Indy Car modeling.

Joel,
One other thought that hit me last night about the Salvino kit being 1/20 is that it is so close to 1/18. That was another problem with the Tamiya kit. Minichamps was making the same car in 1/18, which also hurt the sales of the Tamiya kit. I see that same thing will most likely happen with Greenlight. Greenlight is already advertising the 2023 Indy winner for $65.00. Salvino's 1/24 kits cost on the average around $40.00. So, I would figure that a Salvino 1/20 scale kit will be almost as much as Greenlight's diecast. Whatever happens, I just hope we are not repeating history here. Many of those same thoughts about cutting into the F1 crowd were the same arguments for the Tamiya Lola. Heck you had Nigel Mansell for goodness sake driving the Lola. That didn't help us having anymore Indy cars from Tamiya. Of course much of that happened almost 30 years ago, so I guess I'm showing my age. I don't know how many here would remember that.
I do prefer 1/25, but really I just would like to see more Indy cars coming from major model manufacturers and Salvino is a start. I just hope they keep on producing them. It would be great to see some older Dallaras and G-forces in kit form. Now on the flip side, if Indycar stays with the current "cookie cutter" formula for a while, it might help. I know it will definitely help the after market decal makers and parts makers.

Calvin, I watched the vid, and was just blown away. I wanted to pre-order both Indy Cars and Earnhardt's car as well, but I couldn't find the pre-orders as yet. Hopefully by Monday the latest. joel

Cool! Since they’re expanding beyond NASCAR, maybe they’ll keep going and do some GT3 cars, too. I can dream, can’t I? Ben

Well, it's great to see a new Indy car kit coming on the market from a major manufacturer. It certainly is about time! I am certainly in for one or two, but I won't be buying them by the case like before. Especially at $79.99 a pop! Of course that includes shipping. However, even at $65.00 I just can't see buying more than one or two. Even at wholesale if I were able to purchase them at that would be around $40.00 a piece, still too expensive for a case. That's around $500.00 a case (12 models). Now at the regular price of around $40.00 for a Salvino JR kit, of course that would be in a different scale and we've had that discussion already, wholesale would be around $24.00 a piece. That would be about $300.00 a case, a little more manageable. Thinking a little more about it, for me it wouldn't be practical anyway to be buying by the case because there are no other kits out there to use it as a donor kit in that scale anyway. So, I look forward to see this new car. I've seen and heard some great reviews! Hopefully we'll continue to see more Indy car models from Salvino JR and not only the latest car, but other marks. I also can't wait to see what our aftermarket people can bring to this new model.

Ben, About the only GT3 cars we could ever hope for them to do would be the entire Corvette series, but would that have enough of an market to make it worth while financially for them?
Jim, The basic Dallara chassis has been around since 2012. I never really gave it much thought but I'm assuming that the basic car has been used since then with various upgrades and aero packages that are basically bolt, screw on. Why couldn't they offer them by year, allowing us to be able to build any car since 2012? Of course Michael at IndyCals would be a very, very busy guy.

Yeah, the Vette and probably that hideous new Mustang GT3, since they have the Ford license. I’ll have to keep begging Nunu.
