Um, most of the time they ran it without the mesh on the intakes. I have some pics of Ickx in action if you want a look, but I wouldn't bother. It looks better with them on and besides, you've already got them! Either way would be authentic.
If its any consolation, with the Honda, after weeks of struggling I ended up building the exhausts into one solid unit and then installed it in the car at the very end. Its the only way I could make it work. I think Tamiya was a bit lax in their engineering there, but it was their first model I think?

Wolfie, I think you are correct that the Honda was the first of Mr. Tamiya's dreams of big scale. But I am going slow on this one and trying to do all the fitting and sanding and painting to get them come out very smooth and very white. I also achieved another first in my large scale F1 building. The rear transaxles actually turn! I put the left rear upright in place, put on the rear wheel and it all turned. The U joints "u" and the whole thing isn't glued to a friction point. It certainly does take more time but it is fun to see! I am so lucky I found those parts when they tried to run away or they broke. No way I can show you guys right now but when it all comes together, I will try to get a movie... don't know if a movie will post here. Will it? Oops, up above there is a way to post video! Yay! I did do a little research on the 312B and I did find several pics of the mesh covers in place, so I feel pretty good about them. Besides, if that is all you find to criticize, then I will be a very happy man! I just wish I could get some major body parts painted. Need to go check the post to see if the seat belt is here... Thanks again for sticking with me! It's coming along... maybe by April I'll get started on the 312T! That's the Niki Lauda high airbox 312T. I don't think I've said anything but my wife requested that I do the Andretti livery on the 312B... so Andretti it is! I already have the 78 JPS Lotus done with his name, so I will have a couple of Andretti rides. Thanks again everyone for your input!

First set of seat belts arrived but are sadly lacking in any kind of instruction sheet... And here is the left side upright attached to u-joints and transaxle for power! I know you can every little detail such as the split in the transaxle at the wheel but it will not be noticeable to the naked eye... close ups do that! Any suggestions on how to get rid of just that center separation line on the tire? I don't want to affect the brand new set appearance of the tires... or is that a problem I should just ignore? Nice close up of the mesh screens, eh? Your comments are always appreciated.

You can wrap duct tape around a drill bit until it can hold the tire. Then turn the tire against a sanding stick. Or if you have a way to securely spin the wheel tire assembly.

If you're displaying those tires as brand new, they do indeed have that centerline seam where the two sides of the mold meet. As far as the harness assembly instructions, here's the MFH instructions: Just follow them and you'll be fine. www.modelfactoryhiro.com/new/en/archives/8609Joel

Nothing will eliminate that line - short of an hour long exacto shave which even then will not take care of it properly. If you want to know how I handle weathering the tires I glue a dummy Rim to an axle and insert it in my drill - then put the new tire on the rim and with the drill spinning at high speed I sand it with the round sanding bit in my Dremmel - both tools running at once gives you the authentic road scrubbed look at any amount you wish.

Adrian, I just have never done a set of treaded tires before and I like the look. And according to Joel, that is an authentic look so I will stick with that!

I will leave them just the way they are. I wish I knew if they actually came with stickers on the them the way other "sticker tires" do... it would be fun to mock print something and put it on them... Thanks again!

Anyone know which belts are appropriate? I can't find a photo that shows anything but black... no names.

I don't think belts had any logos back then... Looks like they didn't, Ishmael! So we will go with basic black!

Hey guys! I have a Christening/presentation tomorrow so family steps in over model building. I will be back Tuesday to maybe get another set of exhaust pipes painted and curing for installation on Wednesday, then it will be back to work for a week.
Whatever you doing, believe in it! We are all in this together!
Thanks for all your help and encouragement in the last couple of days!
Daytona 500 is tomorrow!
