Two things: That weird carburetor. This entire thread. Oh. My. Goodness. I'm not sure I follow... weird carb? The entire thread? For a new guy, you sure are cryptic.

The more I stare at this Trumpeter kit, the less I like it. I'm beginning to regret buying it.
But I follow you with interest, to see what you accomplish and what you go through to get there, before I decide to put it on EBay!!

Why? The MENG is a piece of trash from what I have seen with incorrect body molding. And those seats! UGH! I am using another guys build as a blueprint for some of the stuff. I would offer to buy it from you if you are offering to sell. The market is flooded right now and I see the kit priced from $179.99 (UpScale Models) to $99.99 (Andy's Hobby Headquarters). It is a very popular kit since the movie came out.

(and before anyone asks, yes I have built Union/Heller? etc kits before and yes they're a pain.....)
My Union kit is probably the one Chris used as his base for that beautiful twincam Ford that he built, but I just want the 66 winner.

Paul, I can buy that. I’m in for a pound now... no turning back!
Let me know if you decide to sell. I’ll give you what you paid for it...

pnance26: In awe of both. Never seen anything like that carburetor, and the level of detail and research and knowledge exhibited in the preceding pages makes me deeply happy

A little bit of work done on one day off... maybe more tomorrow... Bolt heads added to header flanges... Comparison shot... Without bolt heads... Seats... that's 30 down and 88 to go... will hit with some flat clear after all are applied... then apply nose oil! Bolt heads added to top of transmission... Finally wiring from gear shift selector... I know a lot of the work on the engine will disappear but that's okay. It's a bit too cold to do big body work stuff and I haven't gotten new compressor set up yet! Like I said maybe tomorrow, I will get the seat done and finish coated. I can work on the seat belts. Also, I discovered I don't have to have the "bubble" on the top of the right hand door as that was installed so that the overly tall Dan Gurney could sit comfortably and not have to bend his neck to keep his helmet from scraping the roof inside the car. That's a relief! I will also need to open up the rear vent intakes and the scoops on the sides. All of that is drilling and shaping so there is plenty of that to do! Thanks for following along!

Once you get a system going they aren't bad... I put glue into a row of six and then use an exacto knife to peel them off the sheet. Luckily, they stick a bit. I then place them and move them around with a rounded toothpick end. There are 118 per seat and both seats MUST be installed as per LeMans rules. Same rules that make you put a spare in the front and have the equivalent of "trunk space" empty in the rear. I'll show you those as they get built! Fun times indeed! And I just ordered some other connectors. What's another $45 between friends right?

I'm thinking I will do a weld line around the exhausts where they insert into the engine block. Otherwise, it will just look weird. That will be an easy task with superglue and a hollow needle application!

Patrick, Now that's an impressive update for sure. Those bolts on the exhaust flanges really add a lot to the over all look. Same for those seat fasteners. looking forward to your added welds.
BTW, what air compressor did you finally settle on?

BTW, what air compressor did you finally settle on? Joel Porter Cable 6 gallon pancake with dual outlets. Putting a water trap on it as well... might do a secondary regulator if the primary isn't accurate enough. Thanks for the kind words... it would just look weird if a round tube went into a round hole and had the flange around it... got to at least attempt some form of verisimilitude.

I stare at flanged pipes on a daily basis, and I was wondering about that.
Shouldn't have wondered.

Patrick, Great choice of an compressor. I almost bought one myself but was concerned about the nose level as i have a Porter Cable as my utility compressor around the house and cars and it was just to nosey to use in the house. And that comes straight from my better half. Since you don't paint in the house and your unit is much smaller then the one I bought, you shouldn't have any issues with nose or performance. What's more the prices I've seen are right around the $100 mark. Can't beat that for sure.
