Yes, that is the spare tire well, none of the original 64 to 68 GT40's had a front pump like that it is an added item .Later when the FIA changed the rules (69?) no longer requiring a spare, many teams used the space for a Gas ( reserve) or oil tank. Chris

Patrick, In the photo of the tanks, they both look about the same to me. But neither look really looks like the Aluminum finish you'd get with Alcad2 101 Aluminum. Just to shiny for a working tank.

As I have said, I'm not build a replica of a museum restore... I want to build a model of a race used car!

Patrick, Toning down the shine of the BMF certainly would give you the look you're after. But Alcad2 101 Aluminum would be quicker over a gloss black base coat, and no seams.

Patrick, I've used Mr. Color lacquers as well, but for me nothing works and looks as good as Alcad2. Just the one extra step of a gloss Black basecoat. And once dry and cured it take take as much handling as any paint I've ever used.

I’m the same with Alclad over a gloss black base. As much as I love the Mr Color lacquers, I think the pigment flakes in their metallics are a little large. Alclad’s are very fine.

Just ordered the AlClad to have it on the shelve and for use... so that means ordering some new gloss black... so that means ordering some thinner... so that means ordering some lacquer thinner... and on and on and on... I also ordered three more bottles of Arcadian Blue from Mike at MCW.
Probably a good thing I quit keeping a spreadsheet of the cost of this kit! LOL!

Patrick, Alcad makes a pre-thinned Gloss Black but I've had issues with it namely that it just never dries and cures. Mr. Color or Tamiya gloss Black thinned 50/50 with Mr. Color #400 Leveler Thinner is pretty cheap and will go a long way.

I’ve heard of a lot of people who had trouble with Alclad’s black primer not drying.
A late friend who built beautiful natural metal planes used Tamiya X-1 gloss black acrylic thinned 75% Metalizer thinner as the base coat. The several times I tried it I got great results, too, but I’ve switched to Mr Color gloss black since Metalizer is no more.
For my Piedmont airliners, I just sprayed Alclad over Tamiya white primer since the rest of the model was going to be white.

Ben, the Gloss Alcad2 I believe is enamel based and that seems to have been the problem, but it's never been resolved.

Chris Smith,
I work on it when I can... the biggest hurdle right now is time. Getting prepped for winter and all. On top of that, just working with all the little bits and it is also time to start painting large pieces of body work...
What is on your bench at this time?
