Patrick, Glad to see that the GT40 MkII is still alive and well. So will you be just concentrating on it till completion, or will the Ferrari 256 be sharing your bench and your time? joel One at a time Joel since there is a limited amount of space, time, and patience! LOL!

So here is why I have stalled out on this project... it all started back in November with this thing called the holidays. Many decorations to put up and trees to get (we have four now... three artificial and one real pine since we have so many ornaments). Plus I do all the exterior decorating. Then we got into the full swing of things with visitors etc. and the next thing you know it is January! It didn't help that my MIL died on 12/30 so I have been helping my wife through all that... I will be getting back to work ASAP but I still have about a days worth of exterior lights to get taken down and put away. And fighting things out of my control... I swear you will see progress soon. Happiest of new years to you all! Sorry bout the loss bud. Looking forward to seeing progress start up again on this one.

So, all is not well in Patrickland regarding the GT40. I did get a chance to go back to the garage only to discover that my less than 1 year old space heater is non-functional. So the temperature was not conducive to painting nor curing of CA which doesn't like the cold. I did get a few things back in position and then decided to do another dry fit. And this is what I came up with... I never imagined all these gaps. They didn't appear to be there prior but I am sure I just over looked them thinking they would fix themselves. So I am looking at a $1400 hanger queen as the chassis is solidly glued to the bottom pieces and so is the top center section. That leaves only the doors that can have any adjustments. And since they are painted and the top is painted, this is not good. If the top were just the top but it includes the front suspension as well. So I am royally screwed. I don't want to describe this any further. I am thinking of just walking away but then again, I have two of the kits and I have too much invested. I am pissed with my lack of foresight and talents to fix this...

However, I did find a new use for my stencil circle cutter. I don't think anyone considered this... I need thin stripes of flat black racing tape for the windows of the GT40. I have ordered the tape and then tried the following: 1) need for 1/8" tape; 2) measure width of tape (1"); 3) set cutter at 7/8" from trammel point to blade; 4) use trammel point as guide around edge of tape; 5) peel 1/8" tape strip! So I did learn something out of the mess yesterday.

Slowly but surely, I will beat this kit into submission. Here are some views of the tape around the main windscreen and the left side door... And here is the front space... not finished but eventually the spare will be in there... As always, your comments and criticisms are welcome.

Guess no one cares any longer! I am trying to push this one across the finish line before starting the Ferrari 156 Shark Nose. But that may be just a dream... I hope I don't push it to the back burner but...

These windows and headlight covers are obviously on a restored car as mentioned, the vibration and wind pressure on them at the track would have caused the screws to back out causing all sorts of Havoc. They would start falling out after a very short time. Great Pics though. Patrick I think you did a excellent job on the P/E on the inside, when you do the Mastic around the window it will accentuate the P/E hardware and it will look even better... Chris I know it's an entirely different type of racing, but on drag cars we use either countersunk allen or phillips screws with locknuts to install lexan windows.

I hope I don't push it to the back burner but... PUSH, PUSH, PUSH this has been a motivating build with lots of topics thrown in and I for one cant wait for the Sharknose 156. The finished car will be very nice . Keep On Building!!!!! Chris

That's basically how I cut strip plastic, the sharp points on the Digital Caliper are for scribing plastic or metal, I scribe it then use a metal ruler and sharp X-acto to cut it for a perfect width piece of plastic, A very valuable tool if you do a lot of Scratchbuilding... Patrick, I still have my plastic circle cutter that was never any good at cutting consistent circles, so I dug deep into my pocket and bought DSPIAE cutter which is rather expensive. I had no idea what to use my now useless Flex cutter for. Your tape cutting method looks like the perfect answer.
Chris, I'm going to give your method for cutting strip plastic a try as well, since buying package after package of Evergreen strip gets kind of costly, and I'm always out of the size I need.

Due to cold weather, work has been suspended on the GT40MKII. When it is more conducive to painting, I will resume the build.
Thank you all for your support over the past year!
