Chris Smith, I work on it when I can... the biggest hurdle right now is time. Getting prepped for winter and all. On top of that, just working with all the little bits and it is also time to start painting large pieces of body work... What is on your bench at this time? Still working on the Porsche moby dick, I should be able to seal the decals this weekend and start working on putting all the little details together …. I have a Ferrari that is calling my name 😁

Patrick, Facing the same issues with the changing of the seasons, plus all my new medical issues are a royal pain in the butt. Hospital time is non building time for sure.

I just thought of this but should the PE parts be painted the color of the chassis? Doesn’t the paint just scratch off? (The fingerprints will buff off with a cotton-tip.) A Little PE work for the windshield wiper... very tedious... 7 parts I am also very pissed about the ghost seam that’s back from the Gurney bubble. This will take some redo, regluing, resanding, repainting... it felt and looked perfect with the primer! Also just to let you see the difference in 1/16th and 1/12th scale...

Patrick, Most of the PE should be painted. My golden rule is if it would be added as a structural piece on the real car before prep and paint, then it gets painted. If was added after painting, then it's usually not painted.

Patrick, Certainly the big plate on the side and the top channel. Like I said the other 2 looks like they would have been added after prep and paint. Hopefully, those here with some expertise could offer a definitive answer.

OK, this is a restored car. Actually, THE restored 66 winning car. But you can clearly see what comes after the initial chassis assembly.
It's your car my friend but I wouldn't be painting much of the photo etch, I think it looks great, and it's probably just as authentic.
Keep on truckin man.
Edit: probably help if I posted the picture

I never really used Metal Primer as all the PE I needed to paint were usually already glued in place. I just gave them the same quick sanding that I do with the plastic body shell, then Either Tamiya or Mr. Color's Lacquer primers. Sticks just as good for me.

Found this lurking about in a file of photos from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum! You can sure see the rivet pattern on this one on the hood!
