Paul, Now that's some very impressive decaling. Most of Indy Cal sheets in the smaller scales are offered with the background color or just the decals without any background color. I've always used them without the background as I'm 100% positive I would screw it up with wrinkle city. The Lucas distributor and injection unit is wired and plumbed to perfection. I'd come and help you sand the drywall mud but I still have to finish doing the same in our basement that I've been putting off for more then a year. Right now my focus is on redoing the shelving and storage in the back of garage so that the new snow blower will have a proper home up against the back wall, all my tools and tool boxes on their own shelves, and car stuff as well. That should free up more then enough space for the cars without worrying about hitting something I've got in the space between the cars. joel Joel, the 1/20th (for Tamiya) decals Michael sells either way, but the 1/12th only as a "pinstripe only" option. I hate pinstripes, lol. What would have helped is if he had included a masking template, not looking forward to the next painting step.
So far I have no complaints with the kit, considering it's vintage.

Paul, Masking for a major 2nd color has always been a issue for me, and most of the time i come close but never seem to get it really close enough. Having a masking template would be a huge help and confidence booster for sure.

Basic block and transaxle assembled. Not much different from Tamiya's offering:
The accessories are a bit harder to locate, as Heller doesn't really provide any mounting points. Having a knowledge of what a Cosworth goes together like helps, I've built enough of them. Box stock except for some fuel lines so far:
And the rather innovative rocker arm Ligier suspension system installed. Hint: Don't glue the rotors to the axles, let them float, it makes installing the calipers a whole lot easier! So far I've added nothing that doesn't come with the kit, but I can see some lines and coolers are missing - shouldn't be too hard to cobble some up:
Everything fits reasonably well so far, a good CA is helpful as most of the parts have to be held in place until set - I used the 5 second stuff. For a 1979 vintage kit, I have no real complaints. Yet! I still have all the bodywork to go, so, we'll see.
Thanks for looking Paul.

Paul, Now that Ford Cosworth DFV really looks quite impressive with the ignition wiring added. I'd say you did a really a 1st rate job of detail painting the halfshafts and universal joints.
For no real mounting points, you really did nail it.

Thanks guys I appreciate the kind words. So far it's a better kit than I expected, not quite the level of a Tamiya 1/12th but pretty good. Sort of like a Tamiya 1/20th with bigger parts.
Patrick, I haven't a clue what these things are worth. Mine has been in the closet for so long I don't even remember what I paid for it.

In answer to your paint query in another thread: Tamiya TS-10 French Blue over light gray primer or TS-15 Gloss Blue over white primer. The color seems to be right between those two!

It wasn't a paint query Brian, I was serious when I said "what colour of glue"! This old plastic is rejecting everything, white stuff, green stuff, blue stuff, even Gold stuff!
As for paint, if I ever get there, it will be French Blue over white paint out of necessity - I have to paint the white first and then mask it off and paint the blue. I know from experience Tamiya white doesn't cover anything except maybe white.
Isn't model building fun?

Isn't model building fun? Yep, just like real racing, it's fun until it isn't! On topic, have you tried all the liquid cements?

Isn't model building fun? Yep, just like real racing, it's fun until it isn't! On topic, have you tried all the liquid cements? Yep. The Tamiya white cap works, as does old fashioned Testors tube crap, but with all the clamps and rubber bands needed, it's a pain, plus waiting 24 hrs for it to set properly.
For some reason quick set and the CA's don't like to bond to this stuff. Maybe it's just the age of it - had the same problem with a Revell kit a while ago.
We soldier on.

So, where I'm at. The front undertray didn't co-operate. I glued the center to the monocoque, then one side, not too bad. Then the other needed rubber bands and me holding it 'til the glue set. All this while mating it to the upper body to make sure of the alignment. It worked, then it later came apart as I was installing the spring bases. Do it all over. The kit doesn't come with brake masters but they will be partially visible when displayed with the cowl off. That's if the cowl ever comes off (or even goes on at this rate). I had some left over from something else so I added them, with some lines. Also added the throttle cable. I think it'll look OK after a little touch up painting:
The side pods. I had hoped to paint the pieces first, scratch that idea. I glued the front parts (beside the air intake) making sure they were aligned, then let the glue set overnight. Then applied white cap cement to the joints, twisted the parts into shape, and clamped it thus:
This I let set overnight also. So far it has stayed together. I now have this, a little spot putty and should be good to go. The bad news is I still have to build the other side.
Slow progress, but progress never the less.
cheers guys Paul
