Patrick, Are you working around your EMT schedule between coats? If you're shooting lacquer or Acrylic Lacquer 24 hours is way long enough. Now the new Enamels are a whole different story.

I have to so, Joel. I won't be able to shoot the second coat until tomorrow which will be a good 48 hours... I leave at 0445 and don't get home until 1945. Then it's dinner and off to bed so...
And I work around my Paramedic schedule. I haven't been an EMT for about 35 years! LOL!

Ok, mushing forward... I think I had my air brush psi set a little too high as the paint went on a bit "drier" than I cared on the second orange coat. I am still not used to the "no drip or run" guarantee from MCW as their paints are prethinned. But I think it is very salvageable with some "scrub pads" and some elbow grease. Getting to spend multiple days in the workshop can glean wonders for progress... I actually attached the engine to the transmission housing using two part epoxy (that ought to hold it and can now really begin to see what the car will look like... I also had to make some modifications on the nose insert to get it to fit down flush as it is supposed to do. So here are some photos from yesterday and some comments as well... Second coat of orange that cured for a couple of hours and then put into place temporarily... The gap between side pod and upper shell will go away when it is snugged down and permanently attached. There is nothing to see in the side pods or detail so securely that top permanently is no big whoop... You can see how the nose insert sits too high as supplied with the radiator underneath... so a little Dremel tool sanding tip action and here we are... much better fit... Exhausts headers and pipes assembled and awaiting paint... engine and rear end mated... and just slipped into temporary space (you should know by now, I like to see where I am heading...) and it is starting to look like a car... but there are so many steps left... just assembling everything in the rear and making all the hose and pipe connections as well as paint detailing. I feel like I am at about 50% on this build. I will have five days off starting this Thursday and hope to keep moving forward! As always, your comments and criticisms are always welcome!

Patrick. My apologies for getting your job title incorrect. I do understand that a Paramedic is above a EMT in both medical knowledge as well as what you can do for patient care such as advanced medical care procedures such as Intravenous medicines, Electrocardiograms, trach, etc.
Outstanding progress as you move forward on the build. Nice job getting the nose radiator exhaust piece to fit flush. And the paint on the side pods looks pretty good in those photos.

I think Patrick has got the hang of these MFH kits and has now officially crossed to the dark side.
Looking great my friend!!

Oh you… it’s just a matter of getting time to sit and think while waiting for paint to dry! I think of all the lessons MFH kits have taught me, patience and taking my time are most impressive… and lots of pre planning and adapting. I’m sure everyone thinks that because the kits cost 4x more than any other, they should go together with the ease of making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! But they are some of the most difficult builds I’ve ever encountered! Very complex and requiring tons of skill!

Nah, the paint really needs knocked down and buffed out. I am hoping MCW paint does what they say and gets a nice shine without any kind of polish. I am going to do a test run of decals on it and then try different gloss coats like TS-13...

So Paul, are you at all excited about the RA 301 just announced by MFH since you built the immediate predecessor? I built that one as well and don't seem to see the point in doing a car that ran one season and was very unremarkable...

Patrick, Honestly, it does make a huge difference when someone's life is on the line and a EMT can't preform the needed procedures till they get to the hospital. I guess when I had my heart attack in the Ambulance, I was paddled a few times to get my heart up and running again. I would now assume that I have at least one Paramedic on that team in the Ambulance.
Like I said before, MCW lacquer paints were listed as all having gloss finishes. I just can't remember which one of my early builds I used the MCW paint on, or what color it even was, so I can't be of any real help to you on that issue.

I wouldn't mind a RA300 kit, it was Surtees last race winner and a sweet car. Actually I'll have two, the other one with a Ford Quad Cam stuffed in the back makes Hill's Indy 500 winner. A 1/12th MFH Indycar, that would be different!
Now all I have to do is win the lottery - oops, I don't gamble.

Glad to know you recovered! And, in the light of full disclosure, I am only alive today to spend all this money on MFH kits because 1) I recognized I was having an heart attack, 2) knew that I needed to call 911, and 3) knew to tell the Paramedics in San Marcos that I was a Paramedic and knew exactly what was happening so we made smart choices and got my sorry overweight butt into a cath lab only 8 minutes after hitting the back door of the ER! I have two stents and have lost 75 pounds and mostly kept it off since all this went down in 2009. So I know first hand what Paramedics and EMTs bring to life itself! I'll see how it buffs out and I'm sure there will be a photo or twenty! Thanks for the recognition!

Moving right along here with time to build! It is always nice to see a build standing on its four feet! Even though this temporary, it is a start! The orange side pods look very red but they do polish up nicely. MCW paint... Remember the gap on the nose? 95% gone! It was a first time for me to attempt filling a gap. I used some flat stock that just happened to be the correct width! Lots of sanding... and more to do to fill that little gap near the middle and to make sure there is no ghost seam. The rest of the day was spent fixing some pieces that became "unattached" during handling and devising a way to make the steering arms beefier and straighter... more about that later! As always, your comments and criticisms are welcome!

Patrick, Glad that you also made it through the Emergency doors, and eventually out the front door of the hospital. I was in for so long (6 weeks between two hospitals) that I use to stare out the window in the room and wonder if I was ever going to go home. Eventually I did, and walking through the front door brought the biggest smile to my face. Even better then our honeymoon in Hawaii. BTW, 41 years later, this November, we're finally going back. Just want to see it one more time with my "Bride".
And you're so right how great the M19A looks standing on all 4 tires. that's surely a major milestone. As for the sidepod looking a wee bit too Red, on my monitor which is color calibrated every so often, I can see by the white lines not being truly white, that the Kelin temp of the lighting is a tad to warm, and thus the Orange looks a little to warm as well. I'm sure that up close and personal, it looks dead on. joel
