Color shot of Car 5 from Lemans 66. Note the anodized fittings on the gearbox www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/1966_Ford_GT40MarkII-9-10241.jpgI have this picture in color. I can't share it because it is copyrighted by the Henry Ford. I know I have seen it on line, but can't find it right now. Answers many questions you have. www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/1966_Ford_GT40MarkII-16-10241-700x394.jpgIt's one of several taken by David Freeman, the official Team Shelby Photographer. Lots of close ups of the business end where you can see the details you are looking for. While a restoration, it's one of two that were done to the exact specifications by Hollman Moody as how the car looked and fitted for the 1966 Lemans. All the correct fittings, hoses, and belts. assets.hemmings.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/1966-Ford-GT40_33.jpgBoth this car and #2 going thru the restoration can be found online and in books. Car #1 is still owned by the Original Venice Crew and original to the 1966 build. Again, you can find plenty of pictures and videos. Here is a nice article on Car#4 now at IMS with lots of pictures you will find useful www.motortrend.com/news/12q4-1966-ford-gt-mark-ii/You need to search Getty Images. There are a number of color photos from 1966 Daytona, Sebring, and LeMans that should end any debate of what hardware was used, where, and color. Feel free to PM me anytime with questions. I have 100's of Mk II pictures gleaned from The Henry Ford, several racing archives, private collections, and from hours scouring message boards and internet sites on top of the many books and magazine articles. Many I cannot share openly because of copyright issues. I can heavily crop them though. What I can't answer, I usually know who to ask. One of the many benefits of being a researcher are my contacts. This is all great info and I really appreciate it! Trust me, I will be asking questions! Thanks so much!

In this photo of the Shelby Team Gt-40 MK-II it is quite clear they preferred Braided lines and fittings exclusively , sorry I cant tell you what race but it would appear to be Daytona circa 1967?. Back then the "Spare No Expense" to Win order had come down from Ford. So it was quite prevalent amoung the Teams.. Chris

That pic brings up another question, Chris - were all the chassis blue or did they vary with the car colour?

From the several books and other info I have read ,almost all were that darkish Ford Blue including the bare metal panels in the interior. But.... the D.O.H.C. car that was in the Briggs Cunningham museum was bare aluminum, I spent a lot of time in that car with Briggs, and the Alann Mann Lightweight's ( also factory built chassis) cars were also in bare aluminum. Somewhere I have a pic of the AMR car with Aluminum door sills and a special black vinyl pad to protect the metal from denting ( top of the gas tanks you know )These cars were factory experimental per se, Beyond those couple I have not seen a car that was a FORD GT40 , not a other manufacturer, that was not Darkish Ford Blue. Note the rolling jack stand is Cobra Metallic Blue! Cool! Chris

All the GT40 Mk.2s for the '66 LeMans race, including the Alan Mann cars #7 and #8, were assembled at Shelby's rented hangar at LAX from chassis that were painted "Machinist Blue" by the Shelby paint shop. The Mann Organization used many GT40s but the LeMans cars had blue chassis. The best reference for this is here; www.raredrive.com/gt40-restorationNote the fine print painted along the edge of the tub

I may have mis-informed you as my Alan Mann Racing cars were the AMR GT40 01/02 1967 MK-I factory LIGHTWEIGHT chassis with MK-II Body work , a 427 CID engine that was run with Weber Carbs not the single Holley. This car was Red with multiple gold and white stripes , the Graham Hill seat (which I replicated out of Brass and covered with Split Leather) I dont have my pics handy but I did have Indycals make me up the white Alan Mann Racing decals that go along the sides. I made the section below the doors that was unclad not using any body panels over the chassis to save weight. This car did qualify for the 1967 Lemans 24 but was deemed Illegal because of the Weber Carbs, the car was changed back and re-qualified for the race. I had to stop the project to work on the So Cal NNL model show and will get back to it soon, also I need to locate the photos. I chose this car because of the differences between it and the other GT40's that year.. It was quite different... I did get some of my info from Alan Mann Racing in the UK who sent me some info and photos. to help. Chris AMR GT40 01/02 during restoration....

Hi Folks, Upon receiving my kit a few months ago I contacted one of my vendors to see if we could do something with the engine. "Mad Mike" produces a 3D printed GT40 Mk II in 1/24th scale. His original model was in 1/8th scale. These are first test prints, I like where it is going) 1/24th scale... Kit motor.... test prints... Randy

Randy, a Mad Mike 1/12 GT40 engine ? sign me up ! this kit could use a detailed engine because the one in kit looks like a cheap toy.

Things are coming together nicely... here is the status of this build... KA-0007 upgrade RECEIVED GY tires- RECEIVED IndyCals (2 set)- RECEIVED RB Motion order of bits- IN TRANSIT Magnifier Kit - IN TRANSIT MCW Paint Order- IN TRANSIT GT40 books0 IN TRANSIT
Needs 1/12th orange plug wire (Detail master makes orange but only in 1/24th scale... are there any suggestions?) Correct color (or close) to paint tub and underparts (I know it is a dark blue but are there any Tamiya color suggestions? Correct color (or close) for the "Ford Blue" of the motor (once again, a Tamiya suggestion would be best) A PE bender and micro applicator for CA New CA glue and adhesives Grabit Stix or something similar for PE handling Piece of smooth tile for cutting PE (Never even thought that a cutting mat only encourages bending)
I think that about covers it...
Anything I missed?
