Joel, you pulled off a flawless execution of a stunning livery! Sam, Thanks so much for your thumbs up, as it means quite a lot to me. Easy paint job, killer of a decal scheme was my thoughts going into it. But like I said, the decals which are indeed designed and printed by Beemax/Aoshima are absolutely perfect. just thick enough to allow for all the adjustments I needed for alignment, and yet thin enough to settle down into the recessed panel lines. Couldn't have asked for more. Still much to do before I can cross the finish line, but I'm getting there slowly but surely. Joel

Joel, just went through the build from page 1 and you are doing your usual stellar job. I like the look of that livery. You mentioned useing Gravity paints. Where did you get them from? I have heard bad things about Gravity USA.

Bill, Thanks Buddy for those most kind positive words. Believe me whomever printed those decals not only got the registration and color dead on perfect, but they nailed the type of decal paper to a "T". I'll have to go back to my " Old n Slow" moniker. I have heard bad things about Gravity USA. 2whl, Thank you for the thumbs up. Not so sure I'd call it a Steller job, but it's my best effort to date, and that's all I can ask for. As for the Gravity paints, I love 'em. There are two resources for them, Gravity USA. It's owned and run by Mate~, and there are threads and threads about his horrid service. I ordered paints from him and then saw that he wasn't filling new orders till he got caught up, but would accept them, so I went that route. Then once he started to fill orders I figured that my order would be filled in a few weeks time. A month went by and nothing. He never replied to any of my emails, nor nearly anyone else's. Finally I had to open a claim with Pay Pal who refunded my money after he never replied to them either. Plenty of guys that didn't use Pay Pal never got their money back nor their paints. Some guys eventually got their order, but the wait is insane if you do get your paints. I noticed in one thread that the company had issues and had two sites: Florida and Spain. Spain seems to have been the main site for Gravity paints. Every Google search was 100% positive about the Spain site, so I placed my order. I got my paints in 4 days time! Then I placed a larger order, and again I got my paints in 4 days time. That's 4 days from my computer to my paint at my door. Weekend orders are still 4 days tops. Their customer service is fantastic, and they'll custom make a color for you, but it takes a few weeks to get it. The only issue I've had is with live chat, no one ever seems to be there. I did call once and my call was answered right away. I've emailed them and got a real answer the same day every time. Not an automated response, and then you wait. I always use DHL for shipping, and have never had a single issue with them. I don't even bother with tracking any more, as I already know I'll have my paints in 4 days. Here's their address: gravity-colors.com/Joel

Joel...this is REALLY looking good!!! Thanks for the heads up on the GRAVITY paint. I usually use automotive paint but was thinking of trying Gravity. Heard a few good things about it.

Gary, I've never used Automotive paints as I'm assuming that you use those little bottles of touch up colors. What do you thin them with?
As another chapter in the story of model car lacquer paints, lets talk about Zero Paints. As I've also used them years ago. The colors are dead on, and the paint is the equal of Gravity. The plus is that you get a whole lot more paint per bottle for about the same price. The Color range is about the same with new colors being added all the time. What's more they have started issuing specialty colors/Paints. Paints that have texture for seats, a rubber color, and some Carbon Fiber colors (same with Gravity).
The distribution is setup world wide with one or two online retailers per country depending on country size. And they have the sole rights to that country. No other distributor can sell to a customer in that country, or so I was led to believe. Well, it depends on what country you live in. Here in the East USA the distributor is Hobbyworld USA (www.hobbyworld-usa.com), and they're only a few states north of me. Sweet deal, as it means cheap and fast shipping.
So I went to their site, and then the reality of the issues set in. The guy was always out of way to many colors and products needed, including base colors like Mat Black, Primers, and Some of the replacement 2K bottles, or even the whole set of three. OK, I gave them a full month checking back once per week, and month after month the out of stocks remained an issue. I wanted to order paints for the Lotus 49, needing BRG and the correct Yellow. They had the BRG, but never the Yellow. So what's the point? Calls and emails to them were replied to, but the excuses mean nothing when you can't get the products you want. Seems that there was a West Coast distributor, and they shared orders as there are mins. Well, the West Coast guy dropped the line, and no one picked it up. Hence, the issue of constant out of stocks.
I tried to order from Canada, but they wouldn't ship to the USA. Then I tried Hiro Boy in England and they would ship, but Vat was a killer. I've found Spot Models in Spain and the do ship to the USA everything including Zero paints, but their shipping is more expensive then Gravity as they don't use DHL. I do intend to use Spot Models for just about everything else as they have a fantastic selection of kits, and products that I can't find here, and in one place. So I'll try for just one or two orders max per year and bite the bullet on the shipping.
Sorry that I drifted off topic. I just checked Hobbyworld-USA and it was no surprise that he's got a ton of Out Of Stocks on Zero paints. I even contacted the home office and complained about his service a few times. The response was always the same. Sorry, but no one else will ship to you, which I now know isn't true. Just a lot more expensive.

Joel...I use those bottles and the small and large spray cans. .I decant the cans into a bottle and let it set for a few days. I usually shake the bottle a little before opening it . Not much mush as the pint still has the excellerant in it. It will rise up to the top of the jar fast and spit on ya before you know it. To thin it...( not much) I use the lacquer thinner that I got from Lowes and works great. I also use Duplicolor Primer. Here as of late I've been using Alclad gray primer and I really like it. Shoots on very smooth . I've been using that decanting method for over 15 yrs. I also use paints from SCALE FINISHES and MCW. Both have great paint. They are ready to shoot straight out of the bottle. Good stuff.

Trans AM & IMSA GTO Mustangs, & AMT 1/25 scale Indy cars to name a few. Those colors by name aren't available from Gravity nor Zero paints. I'm not sure that even calling them will solve the problem as custom colors are very expensive. I've been on the MCW site several times and even bought some paint from them before they started to redo their site. Now there isn't any color chip with the name of the paint, nor their previous listing of team cars to colors. There is a booklet for paints but it seems to be only for USA car makers street cars. So I guess my question is just how would I go about finding out the correct color for lets say Flogers Red, or Cummings Yellow? Going to check out Scale Finishes to see what they have. Thanks, Joel

Gary, I just went to the Scale Finishes site, and it's impressive for sure as there is an extensive range of racing car colors. What I'm confused about is what the base of his paints are. I'm not interested in enamels, as I'm a lacquer guy. He lists Basecoat paints and gloss enamels. I'm guessing that the Basecoat paints are Lacquer based as he says that they're automotive paints? The fact that his paints are pre-thinned is a major plus for me.

Base coat is Lacquer. They do need cleared. The enamel is GREAT as I use it all the time. It IS NOT like the Testors stuff. This paint dries pretty fast. It does not need a clear coat but...you can add one if your heart desires. I also use cheap Lacquer thinner to thin it....just a tad before I shoot.
As far as the MCM site goes...give them a call....they do answer the phone as they are a Brick and Motor shop along with the on line stuff.
