As a hardcore F1 fan since childhood, I rarely miss a race, I continue to struggle with the modern F1 car, and with modern F1 racing. I think the 'Hybrid Era' destroyed F1 for me - and just so we are clear I do care about the environment and the many ways in which we as human beings are slowly destroying this planet for the next generation. Having said that, this is formula One racing and it is at it's very essence a dangerous sport - always on the edge, embraced by gladiators who have decided to throw caution to the wind, and ignore the risks in order to live on the edge doing the thing they love the most in life - their passion. This element of danger is one of the aspects of motor racing that makes it such a thrilling sport to watch. For me it is only one aspect, but for many it is the only one. I love the sport for the cars and the Engines and the Colors and the personalities and the raw speed. By slowing the cars down and bringing in the Halo etc. - In other words 'public pressure for safety' F1 has essentially killed the true 'RAW' man in machine element of Open Wheel Racing. This is why I hate the 'Halo' and the narrow tires, and all the disgustingly ugly 'Aero Bits' that make these cars impossible to pass. And don't start telling me about how 2021 will change the sport completely and get rid of the 'single file' racing we have had to endure for well over a decade now - it won't. None of the so called changes that are touted to bring back passing have ever truly worked - watching a pass that has been lined up for 30 laps and then executed on a straight away using 'DRS' assistance is not Open Wheel racing that I can get excited about.
Watching Schumacher do his thing in the 2000's was impressive in many ways, and there were some glimpses of real 'Open Wheel' racing again, but that's because Senna taught him how it was done when he was green behind the ears.
For me, true 'Open Wheel' racing ended on that dark day at Imola in 94' Since then the driver's control over the cars has slowly but surely been for the most part taken away from them.
I'm not saying Lewis Hamilton isn't an amazing racer - the problem is that like many other modern F1 drivers I think he is actually much more of an amazing 'Athlete' than a 'Race car Driver' ... and he's aloud to be this because they now drive spaceships 'by wire' .. from the Pit Wall, not true Formula One cars.
Sure the technology in and of itself is incredibly impressive if that's what turns your crank, but it's not why I love and watch Motor racing.
As for the new 2020 Launch Cars, yet again I am simply disappointed and un moved... why? because there is no real visual change in the cars over the past 3 seasons - Come on Redbull! We are tired of this livery ... have the balls to run the Shake-Down livery during the season - it's a milliuon times moire impressive and exciting. It's the same old same old yewar after year as far as livery's go. It's pretty pathetic when we have to rely on Team Haas to be the only one's to try and shock or experiment.
These Launch cars are a snoozer .... zzzzz

Adrian, I'm older then most here. I come from an era where F1 drivers rarely lived long enough to make it to their retirements. My 1st race car was my beloved 1967 MGB, and the 1st F1 race that I attended was at Watkins Glen that chilly and damp Oct day in 1967.
The cars back then had no wings, little to no down force, and Bias tires!! They spent almost as much time with opposite lock as did the sprint car drivers. Our biggest complaints back then was that most cars couldn't finish a race, and more then half the field was uncompetitive. Jackie Stewart took on the establishment and pushed for driver's safety above all. What seemed blazingly fast back then, today is about what a F3 car can turn today. I thought it was blasphemy when Colin Chapman had the nerve to sell sponsorship and ad space on his cars, and even worse that those BRG/Yellow cars were now Red/Gold with strange names adorning the entire shell.
Times change, and racing has had to change with it. Every era as we move forward made the previous ones seems so much better to us purists and old timers. But F1 like everything else can't stay as it once was. Hopefully, the 2021 season will at least help to return F1 racing on to the path of real side by side racing. Only time will tell. In the mean time, enjoy this season, I've got a hunch it's going to be one of the more exciting seasons of late.

Joel Thanks for responding Joel I admit I went on a bit of a rant, but that's because the topic of modern F1 racing is a 'Hot Button' for me. I want to go back 35 years ... but I can't. My passion for all things F1 means that I still watch every race and I do so hoping that it will be a little more exciting than the last - but it rarely is nowadays. I will admit that given the current state of side by side racing - i.e. almost Non-existant - the bosses are trying to even things out as best they can in this 'Ultra High Tech' Era, and the past season did have it's share of the more exciting races I have seen in modern F1 for many years - and yes indeed let's hope you're right and that the 2021 cars will help even more. I am always happy to see any generation watching and enjoying the sport, any all of it's forms, but to a purist who watched through the eighties and early 90's, it is very difficult to explain to the new watchers that this is not truly Formula one racing. You are 100% correct that change is as sure as Death and Taxes, and F1 is no exception, it's just a shame that I don't have enough money to buy the whole damn show and raid the museums and resurrect those Honda Mclarens and Williams and get them running again and start the 2020 Season in real Formula One cars ... ah, what a beautiful sight that would be ....

Adrian, Do what I do, and build every race car that has a special meaning to you. I do my best, and share them with you guys here. As for current cars, well, it's a die cast or limited run resin kits.

I'm loving every minute of it, but honestly there really isn't much point in posting anything here because there simply is no action in the Nascar Forum - and I mean none lol. I've started up my own Facebook page for builders to post their build photos in an easier and busier environment. There just isn't the interest in this particular Forum for what I'm building currently - and that's okay, it is what it is my friend

Adrian, I think that you helped turn on the light bulb over our collective heads. I really love to look at pictures, detailed pictures of well built model race cars, and so do most of the members here. Sure, Nascar isn't at the top tier of many of our lists. But if you post finished builds with explanations of the build, and even start build blogs, the minions will slowly come. Don't look at the posts, look at your view numbers to get a sense of interest and how it will build over time as we all get to know you and your work. The honest truth with this list, like most, is that you get out of it basically the same as you put into it. Guys (sorry but I don't think that we have any female modelers at the present time) will look for your builds, blogs, and posts when they see that you've visited their builds and threads.
With that being said, you have to take into consideration that this isn't the biggest, nor most active modeling list you're going to find on the net. We're smaller, and somewhat slower to view and post, but collectively we do. I belong to one other modeling list for well over 10 years, and the level of work here is overall far superior right across the board.
Will I build a Nascar Stocker this year? I don't honestly know as I've become so focused on all things Porsche, but who knows? Maybe buy it this year, plan out the build, and build it next year. Of course I have to make it to next year.
So please stick around and become a Nascar modeler leader.

Well I must say, the way I felt about this forum yesterday to the way I feel about it this morning is what I guess you could term a 360 degree turn around.
I just got into work and I opened my laptop - I spend most of my 9 hour shift staring at this computer screen. I deliberately set it up so that any post notices from this Forum would show up in my work e-mail folder lol ... cheating I know, but hey I'm a Gemini so what can I say. I truly thought that this forum was a ghost town for a builder like myself - what I mean by that is a builder who literally thinks and breathes modeling on a 24 hour basis ...and loves to talk anything modeling related to anyone who will listen.. much to my lovely wife's Chagrin.. bless her heart. However I just read the 3 posts here from AFX (would love to know your real name at some point) Tatocorvette, John, and becoming my favorite - Joel.
I'm 48 years old but I am told I look 25 - which is terribly funny because I have no secret to disclose whatsoever ... just have a baby face.
I was pleasantly surprised to read your response AFX, mainly because I suppose secretly you are the one I hope to get the most feedback from - so thank you. Unfortunately for some reason I can never view your builds - so I am yet to see one. I hope to figure this out, and soon, I really do.
Tatocorvette, hearing from you was cool because I know you have skills. Start up that Nascar build again and lets share notes - you'll have fun I promise, even thought it's not a Corvette. Hey you know what? We can hunt down a resin Stingray body shell for you and you can do a 'What if Corvette Nascar Model'
John, hearing from you was very special not just because we are fellow Canucks, but hearing that I contributed to your purchase of a Nascar model is very cool indeed. I would love to follow your build and share tips going forward And remember - before I started these Nascars I was only building F1 Models in both 1/18 and 1/12th Scale.
Joel, I think you know at this point that you are my favorite voice here, you always have taken the time to respond to me and we have shared some fun stories together. You truly are the reason I haven't given up and left, thank you sir. I would love nothing more than to hear that you did indeed purchase a Nascar Model .. and please, no more talk about making it to next year - you're not going anywhere - and that's an order!
I will post some of what is currently on my bench at the moment here later today for anyone who is interested.
Thank you again gentlemen for making my Sunday

Adrian, OK, I'll stick around for as long as possible. But the truth be known, I'm 72, and lets say not exactly the Poster Boy of good health.
No matter what I'm building, it's for the track and will have 4 wheels (well, maybe 6 if I actually build a Tyrrell F1 one of these days), but you better believe it that I'll be following your builds, and asking a ton of questions. I can assure you that there's plenty of cross over for detailing & all sorts of techniques, starting with your tires.
Just don't give up on us. Ismael took a breather for months, and I missed his excellence in CR# R builds. Even his Ford GT was something special. But he's back now. And Bill has a specialization in Trans Am cars. Talk about a narrow focus, but his builds are truly super detailed and on the National IPMS level for what I've seen posted here.
One quick look at your 1st posted Nascar build, and I knew that we've scored another incredible builder.
JC and Chris run a great shop here, and both are outstanding modelers. I'm sure that JC can give you the links to several of his builds.

Adrian, I built a Gremlin of all things. I posted step by step pics of how I grafted a trans am car into a street rod, and I got two one-line replies. There's obviously no interest, so I'm not going to bother posting the finished product. However, I do comment on what the other guy builds, its about the model building, not the subject matter for me. I've learned a lot from these guys. I'm hoping tp pick your brains on a few points.
Until I got here, I never thought I'd bother with a Revell kit in my life, now I've got 4 of the damn things. I blame Joel!
As to F1, I don't like the current cars either, but I'm still a fan.

So what am I? Chopped liver? LOL? There are not many changes to the 2020 cars because next year is a year of change in not just F1 but NASCAR as well. There are renderings out there of the 2021 cars and they are very different. I’ll try to grab a link. But all those fences and shite will be gone from F1. From overhead, the front wing looks like an arrow. That explains why there weren’t many changes. I’m glad my post has prompted this discussion. For me, whether it’s F1, IndyCars, NASCAR, NHRA, unlimited hydros... if it goes fast, involves danger, and looks pretty, I’m watching it! Been this way all my life! Hell, I’m watching recaps of every Indy from 1970 on right now at work!
