Well, I recieved my "NASCAR" kit. I bought it because its the right year Monte Carlo body style for what I'm planning to build. I will admit I'm impressed with the level of detail Revell has put into it, way more than I expected. We shall see. I'm also surprised at how big the damn thing is compared to a Trans Am car. EEEK!
I blame Adrian.
cheers

As to F1's current state, I don't like these cars at all. Next we'll have the drivers sitting at home controlling them with their Wii remotes. In the interests of safety, of course.

Paul, Actually, they've toyed with the remote control coupled with on board computers cars and from what I've read can turn laps faster then a human in the cockpit can. The biggest issue to going forward with the concept is that the vast majority of fans think the idea truly sucks. But give the concept time, and who knows. Just like professional (race for money) online sim racing that we can watch either on site or on our own computers is super popular. YouTube is once again leading the way.

Paul Should we start an “It’s Adrian’s Fault” thread, since he has so many of us looking at NASCAR kits now? That is what I like about these forums that have a lot of people with a lot of different interests. You never know when you’ll see a model of a subject you didn’t know you needed! Ben

Paul I will gladly take credit for this! lol ... It's actually awesome to see. As I've said I have always been an F1 guy for the most part... I did venture into aircraft at one point and built an F-16 that took an award - and I had a blast building it I must say. But I just had always wanted to see if I could build a Nascar that would have the detail and finish on par with some of the F1 builds I have seen, because I had never seen any attempts to be honest. My inspiration was a Jeff Gordon model of his Tide car from early in his career sitting in a model shop window and the builder obviously went to great lengths to add on scratch built details that really caught my eye.
The newer Revell Nascar models actually are quite decent in their own respect - they can easily be used after some manipulation to be the donor kit for a Resin Body - the Resin Body makes all the difference here in my opinion. And yes its a suprise when you see the scale and realize how Large these cars are in real life - at 1/24 they are the size of a regular 1/18 scale model approximately.
I will watch your build with much interest Paul! Good Luck!

Adrean, I'm a huge McLaren fan since their days in the Can Am. Met Bruce & Denny at the 1967 & 1968 Bridgehampton Can AM's. My God were they the class of the field. Well, with the exception of Jim Hall's Chapparal's which always managed to break down with that semi automatic transmission. I kind of like their livery as it Transends both F1 & Indy Car. But I liked last years F1 better. With that said, Sainz and Norris should both have stellar seasons and I'm hoping that they're the top of the mid pack or maybe even the back of the top 3: Mercedes, Ferrari, & Red Bull. But my favorite driver by far is Mad Max Verstappen, then it Hamilton without any doubt. Joel It's so awesome to have the stories that yourself and others can tell me in the actual days that they happened ... I was very young then, but remember my dad taking me to Mosport to watch the Can-Am races, and man did I fall in love with those cars ... would run into the infield between races to buy my favourite car from Mini Grid!
Mclaren is just steeped in so much rich history of winning that it is difficult to see them struggle so badly in in the 2010's - but yes with the Young exciting kids driving them now it looks they they may be pointed in the right direction - let's hope so!

Well I must say, the way I felt about this forum yesterday to the way I feel about it this morning is what I guess you could term a 360 degree turn around.
I just got into work and I opened my laptop - I spend most of my 9 hour shift staring at this computer screen. I deliberately set it up so that any post notices from this Forum would show up in my work e-mail folder lol ... cheating I know, but hey I'm a Gemini so what can I say. I truly thought that this forum was a ghost town for a builder like myself - what I mean by that is a builder who literally thinks and breathes modeling on a 24 hour basis ...and loves to talk anything modeling related to anyone who will listen.. much to my lovely wife's Chagrin.. bless her heart. However I just read the 3 posts here from AFX (would love to know your real name at some point) Tatocorvette, John, and becoming my favorite - Joel.
I'm 48 years old but I am told I look 25 - which is terribly funny because I have no secret to disclose whatsoever ... just have a baby face.
I was pleasantly surprised to read your response AFX, mainly because I suppose secretly you are the one I hope to get the most feedback from - so thank you. Unfortunately for some reason I can never view your builds - so I am yet to see one. I hope to figure this out, and soon, I really do.
Tatocorvette, hearing from you was cool because I know you have skills. Start up that Nascar build again and lets share notes - you'll have fun I promise, even thought it's not a Corvette. Hey you know what? We can hunt down a resin Stingray body shell for you and you can do a 'What if Corvette Nascar Model'
John, hearing from you was very special not just because we are fellow Canucks, but hearing that I contributed to your purchase of a Nascar model is very cool indeed. I would love to follow your build and share tips going forward And remember - before I started these Nascars I was only building F1 Models in both 1/18 and 1/12th Scale.
Joel, I think you know at this point that you are my favorite voice here, you always have taken the time to respond to me and we have shared some fun stories together. You truly are the reason I haven't given up and left, thank you sir. I would love nothing more than to hear that you did indeed purchase a Nascar Model .. and please, no more talk about making it to next year - you're not going anywhere - and that's an order!
I will post some of what is currently on my bench at the moment here later today for anyone who is interested.
Thank you again gentlemen for making my Sunday
So what am I? Chopped liver? LOL? There are not many changes to the 2020 cars because next year is a year of change in not just F1 but NASCAR as well. There are renderings out there of the 2021 cars and they are very different. I’ll try to grab a link. But all those fences and shite will be gone from F1. From overhead, the front wing looks like an arrow. That explains why there weren’t many changes. I’m glad my post has prompted this discussion. For me, whether it’s F1, IndyCars, NASCAR, NHRA, unlimited hydros... if it goes fast, involves danger, and looks pretty, I’m watching it! Been this way all my life! Hell, I’m watching recaps of every Indy from 1970 on right now at work! Far from Chopped Liver my friend ... I love following your work on the Ferrari 1/12, I built a Tamiya Williams FW14b a few years back from a model that had been desicrated. It almost feels to me like there is TOO much real estate on those 1/12's so I returned to 1/20th. However I would love to take a shot at that Ferrari 641/2 one day

I read a couple articles on the POU steering system and I really had a couple of concerns, Does the driver really need another driver controlled adjustment on the car? I mean they certainly have enough to do per lap that the POU system would take a lot more attention ...is that safe? Thinking back to adjustable suspension systems used by Teams like Lotus ...is a adjustable Tow system really legal? The system which allows the driver to pull back on the steering wheel to increase tow in corners and push in to return it to a almost Zero Tow on the straights to increase speed by reducing tire drag ( scrub) on Straights. The car would certainly have a big advantage over all cars not using a similar system. Last, Cost? If legal it would mean that all other teams would have to invest millions more to be competitive... not to mention the amount of development time required.. there goes any cost control limits.. well lots of questions and I am sure we will find out what the FIA has to say about it...... What they're doing is creating a variable ackerman angle. They run toe out to make the car steerable, especially at low speeds, but this makes the car less stable in a straight line, and creates tire scrub. In a road car you'd run toe in to increase straight line stability, but in an F1 with the downforce on the front wheels I doubt you could turn the steering wheel at all doing that. Also the tire wear through the corners would be extreme. The FIA say they will allow it for this year only, I think if they do then the whole season will be ruined. It will be a Mercedes walkover, everybody elses front tires will wear out faster.
(Anyone who's ever driven a Sunbeam Tiger will know what a poor ackerman angle feels like, the car's a pig at low speeds).
The forward/backward shouldn't be hard to manage, braking and accellerating tend to do that to you anyway, even strapped in. But I still don't like it.

Agreed. That second car looks like one of those Gundam robots or something I drew in elementary school. They have to make sure every single molecule of air is managed. Maybe they should have aesthetics factored into the car design so old farts like us will find them more interesting. Isn’t that what they’re doing for the new Hypercar class at Le Mans?
