This is fun, isn't it Patrick? I'm enjoying working on the same kit and being at about the same point of construction as you are. And we both seem to be jumping around the instructions too! I've cleaned up the rear clip, opened the vents and started working on the dashboard while just finishing step 3, lol. Did the seats too, except for the harness. I like Henryk's blue ribbon belts compared to the black kit ones so will see if I can find some blue or red ribbon cheap.
I think I'll shorten the larger tube on the shafts and be happy with them, far cry from the kit version. At first I thought the KA upgrade was overpriced but the more I use of it the happier I am I've got it. I was going to try to modify the kit boots first, or maybe try decreasing sizes of rubber O rings. Maybe make something up and cast it in resin. I just don't know yet. If you find something please let me know.
What I've done so far on the fuel pumps is drill out the connecting shaft between the 3 pumps, wasn't happy with the way it looked glued together. Will use a piece of brass rod there. This will also make it easier to clean up and finish them neatly since they are 3 separate pieces now, or at least I hope it'll be easier! Tried a few times to fabricate the bails with no luck, I think I will need to make a simple jig to bend the wire. As far as the plumbing I think I'm going to wimp out and use whatever the kit supplies and specifies, will probably change my mind once I see yours!
And, yup, already opened up the side uprights and will most likely add the extra pipes.
Looking forward to seeing how your chassis looks all painted!
Currently, I am hung up in a work loop!. We have been running short on personnel since last October and we are very essential personnel as I am a Paramedic on an Air Force Base. I have been working lots of extra hours on an unsteady schedule, so I am sure you will leap ahead of me. It is certainly an advantage to have Henryk's build to use as a reference guide. I think your plug wires look much cleaner than mine. I also stripped every bit of chrome which was a mistake. I should have set aside the valve covers as I will NEVER get Molotow to lay down as smoothly. The rest of the chrome is useless but that one part... oh well. I have been trying to talk arcticwolf into selling me his kit so I can have a redo... Have you decided which way to go with the build? By that I mean, are you doing factory/museum restoration or race used? I am doing race used because I want to replicate the racer's tape around the headlamps and show some grime on the car... haven't figured out that exactly and it seems a shame to dirty up that pretty blue and vermillion red, doesn't it? Speaking of which, what colors, or rather manufacturer colors are you using for your build? I am using MCW Arcadian Blue and Vermillion Red (which requires a white base coat to make it pop). They are the closest to accurate as Mike works directly with the manufacturers to formulate his paint. As I said, you will probably leap ahead of me with your build. And I am in zero hurry on this project. Last year I did three 1/12th Ferraris (0ne rebuild and two from the get-go), a 1/25 '53 Ford pickup, and a 1/24th Porsche 956 as used in LeMans. This year, if this is the only build, then so be it! Great place, this board. My thanks to Chris Hale and the other "AFX" admin whose name I do not know! It is a great deal of comfort to be able to discuss!

You Martin? HAHA! good save though...
So by my count, right now, there are four of us working on the same build... Patrick, Martin, Dave, and Jim. Is this correct? If there is anyone else, let me know! This has turned into a group build! LOL!

Patrick, This is starting to have the feel of the Ferrari 312t group build. So I'm pre-apologizing now for mixing up names to builds as I was so famous for in the earlier unofficial Ferrari group build.

Now we have four and they are all posting here! So maybe I should rename it... or start an entirely new thread! We are up to page 14 already! LOL!

Honestly, everyone should have their own Build blog as mixing and matching in one thread is going to make it really hard to follow each build for someone like me.

I moved all the posts to the new sub-category 1/12 FORD GT40 GROUP BUILD WIP to make it a bit easier to navigate all 5 or so builds. Should Anyone like to separate theirs just start a new thread in this category. I hope it helps, if there are suggestions or questions as always just PM me and I will see what I can do. Chris

Chris Well, Chris, I never intended for my build to be one of a group build but everyone kept piling on... If it is at all possible, I would like to keep my thread separate... unless it is too late for that. I did a lot of research and I think that keeping my own build separate will keep it isolated. I mean scrolling through the photos of five builds trying to keep track of each one will be difficult. If we were all working on the same part at the same time, it might be different. Wish you had let me know because I would have made the request earlier. I really would like to have a separate build log as well as the "group build".

I am going to forego the "Gurney bump" on the top of the right hand door that was created because Gurney was so tall. It isn't necessary on Miles car. Guess I will fill that in and do some sanding!

Chris, Thanks for the new sub cat. As I posted it sure would help guys like me keep so many of the same builds easy to follow without getting them all mixed up as I constantly did with the Ferrari 312ts.

I agree with Patrick, this is his build thread and I apologize if it seemed that I was injecting another build into it. I merely wanted to offer some alternative ways to help his project. Dang rookies (me), LOL.
Yeah, the Gurney bump needs to go on your car. That's a good size depression to get rid of though, I personally would be afraid to tackle that. So looking forward to seeing how you do it.
And I would think making those labels would be fairly easy if we knew what they said (says the guy that never tried that). Then again with an inkjet printer we probably wouldn't be able to read it anyway!

[Yeah, the Gurney bump needs to go on your car. That's a good size depression to get rid of though, I personally would be afraid to tackle that. So looking forward to seeing how you do it.]
Actually, it is a flat spot on the top of the door that was never opened up. Most builders open it for the sake of realism. So filling and sanding it shouldn't be an issue. Just finding the correct filler...
As for the group build thing... I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade. Last summer, when Paul, chrissmith, and I were all working on Ferrari 312T4s in 1/12th scale, we were each doing our own build. Each had their own thread and you could jump back and forth. None of us progressed at the same time, and we were able to exchange some great ideas and even some parts back and forth as needed (which I will also have to share). But they weren't lumped into one huge group build WIP. I like seeing other people's work and seeing how different approaches are to solving the same problems and so on...
It just seems to me that having to scroll through five peoples work trying to decipher which build is which without some kind of unique identifier is a lot of work. I know Chris meant well but I think it should have been discussed via PM.
Does it mean I will stop posting? Yeah probably in the group build. I may start my own thread again with page 1 if that is allowed. And hopefully, it won't anger some people. I have invited a number of people over here from one FB group in particular and would hate to lose them. But I do want my work to be easily followed... and I have already received one confused email saying "what happened to your build? It disappeared!"
So there you have it. I'm not mad at anyone for piling in and rookies are ALWAYS welcome, Jim. We are one big building family. Carry on and keep building! We will all get there!
