The page 129 picture I kept referring to! I think this was page 152... LOL! I am not sure what page it was but the book is laying out so it won't be hard to find. I guess this means I will be fabricating a tank and using on fuel pump on that side!

Patrick, I'm in the face oil camp for a more leather look. But most of the time I use semi gloss finish. The more leather is used, the shinier it seems to get.

Patrick, I believe that the seat covers were a type of parachute nylon material, so a sheen is good. nice catch on the RH pump, is that photo dated?

Dave I'll look at the caption but it is from the garage at LeMans in 1966 to verify. Actually the photo is from Sebring but I have had it verified that there are three pumps on the left and one on the right used as an auxiliary pump.

Just got a preview from Andy's Hobby HQ of the MENG release of the Ford GT40MkII in 1/12th scale and I have to tell you... I am largely unimpressed. There are not nearly as many parts and what is there is very inaccurate.
Three examples that just screamed out at me... the seats which are a soft rubber and have no stiffness whatsoever, the decals for the #1 car (the red over the headlamps is the wrong shade entirely) and the instrument cluster is just toy looking. It is also missing the bulge on the left hand door roof. It does have the correct manifold cover but the rest of the engine is really cheesy.
There is also only one sheet of PE for the entire car. The large cans that sit on the rear frame are molded plastic and look just awful as does the oil tank that sits in the front. No switches, no straps, no hose clamps. One plus is it does have the soft rubber boots for the rear transaxle.
If this is priced higher than the Trumpeter/Magnifier, I would but the Trumpeter hands down. I just don't think the MENG is anything other than an attempt to cash in on the building craze right now prompted by the Ford V. Ferrari movie.
Glad I have what I have now!
Cheers! I'll be doing some work tomorrow on the wiring so see you then!

No kidding, Martin!
The rubber hose lines that are molded was also largely unimpressive.

I've read and read Henry's build - and it is amazing, no doubt. But it has really awoken me as to how much work this is going to require. Nothing too bad; but simply a lot of time needed. Pleased to see a decent model can be made from this kit at least (for the comparative cost) so not a poor choice. Considering you've handled a 'proper'/more respected version without being too impressed at least gives me the confidence in this version; but a shame the references to the actual car seem to be so scarce.
There are certainly some questions about Henry's build which I would ask and wouldn't want to replicate. But if I end up with something half of the quality of that I wouldn't be complaining too much!

If you read the last page of his build, he’s very good with sharing!
He sent me the file for the valve cover decals he made.
I will gladly send it to you if you message me with an email.

Interesting comments on the Meng kit, it's also being criticised for the roofline shape and the front clip with bad arch humps and a distorted set of intakes. So like you I'm happy to massage the Trumpeter kit. Sorry to harp on back to the fuel pump issue but I'm pretty convinced the single 4 barrel carb engines only had pumps on the left side, the later MKIIb cars and those with Weber set ups have more pumps on the right. Trumpeter have mixed MKII and IIb layouts in the kit. See this picture of the Holman Moody cars in the garage at Le Mans - Definitely no pumps there on the 5 & 6 cars. Dave

Patrick. Thanks so much for your assessment of the Meng kit. It's been in the works for so long and to think that I was really thinking about buying it. You saved me a min of $300 for sure.

Dave, The Holman Moody cars may have been set-up different from the Shelby entries which is what I am building. But I see what you are saying... that engine was probably the dual carb setup so it would make sense to have 4 or 6... but it is one of those "potayto/potahto" things. I don't think anyone will care! I was eyeballing them today as I actually did some building! That said. I’m gonna go three on left and single on right. Joel, if you to YouTube and look up Andy’s Hobby HQ channel, you can see his preview... hold on let me get it for you... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbKhLM5Gd2g
