It was blue, Patrick! Johnny Blue like the body or blue like the chassis? Similar blue to the bodywork, however some have suggested that it's slightly darker in period colour photos. I think they may have painted it using whatever blue was to hand at Le Mans.

Do you know if it is LeMans 1966? A couple of observations... first (and obviously) Ken Miles shirtless. Second, notice the "strakes" are not on the lower hood but up near the Roundel. Third... look at the position and shape of the hood pins. They are cut off at the bottoms to match the curve of the hood. And finally, "Look Ma, no rivets!" as seen on the above brown and green car! And although I didn't mark them as fifth, the two black marks on the nose of the car. Interested in what may have made those, that's for sure! Thanks, Johnny!

Patrick, to my knowledge it was practice for Le Mans. Check out the sign top left...it's in French!
The lower strakes are missing but may have been added not long before the race. Not sure when practice was back then, possibly a week before the race. Those upper strakes are the hood cover hinges...probably from a Mini! As for the rivets, the may have been there but not catching the light...but, they may have been added when they added the strakes? Yes, the scratches...I'm guessing they were touched in during race preps.
Ken was quite often seen around the paddock without his shirt on!
Just checked again....looking at the guy in the car and the others with ID on their arms, I guess this was ACO scrutineering. Don't recognise the covered shed...it's not the Le Mans pit lane or paddock area, behind.

Johnny Johnny, I would agree that maybe the rivets were to hold the strakes in place but looking at the #4 from the Indy museum, the rivets are there but no strakes! Also, notice the different hood pin fasteners. The #4 uses Dzus while the #1 has (for lack of a better name) NASCAR fasteners. Gotcha on the hood hinges! That makes perfect sense. As far as the nose scratches, that might be fun to replicate on the race-used look! I love the film camera being held in the foreground! Someone was documenting it all!

Patrick,
Bare in mind the number 4 and 5 cars were run by Holman Moody. Each team would have different solutions to various problems. Both 4 and 5 used the Dzus fasteners. I think they also both ran black chassis, but don't quote me on that! I'm sure I discovered a difference inside the rear clamshells too a while back, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is!

Those are the hinges for the front cover. The strakes that show up later are between the radiator and cockpit cooling air ducts. The strakes prevented the hot radiator air from getting into the cockpit cooling air ducts. Not all cars used them.

Slowly but surely making some progress... First up, the newly AlClad aluminum oil tank is in place... The black straps are just barely visible but I didn't have any other width available. Also straps are now glued down... Front hooks are supposed to be neon red but I think bright red works just as well... you can also see dash is in place. Pics of that to follow later... Air hoses for front brakes... Working on the "Gurney bubble" ghost seam... I am getting quite a bit done as the wife is in Romania visiting family with her son. I'm here working away... so there will be more later today. I actually think I am getting something done.

Tank installed with straps... The office... PE oil coolers... going to do them in AlClad aluminum as long as gloss black is done lightly so I don't lose the mesh detail... Little by little...

Patrick, Well done. The oil tank, and dash look darn good. I had to take a 2nd look as I thought that you were posting pics of the read ones.
Always nice when ones better half is on a family vacation and modeling time is whenever you want it to be for as long as you want it to be.

One thing I don't understand (and never will) is now using my iPhone camera shows ever single little flaw and foible! It makes me respect Chris Smith and his clean builds even more! I don't know how he does it!

Patrick, Today's phones, especially IPhones have resolutions equal to or better then my Nikon D7500, and the lenses are darn sharp. Believe me, I'm in the same boat as you as my pics so flaws and issues that my crappy eyes never see till it's usually to late to do much about.
