I have been impressed with every MFH kit I have seen. I'm sure this is no exception.

Will follow up this one closely. I've never had a MFH but everybody that has raves about it.

Thanks guys. I'll admit I am addicted to these kits. They are very detailed and challenging. I gathered the parts from the first page of instructions. For some reason, MFH decided to do the working parts of the engine. I won't be using these parts because the engine will be closed up and they won't be seen. A mockup of the engine block

Hello,
Interesting. It would make sense if you could actually assemble the working parts. But from what I see the connecting rods are 1 piece. Not that you can't cut them apart thou... Maybe you can make a diorama or something.
Thanks, Ismael

Actually Ismael, I could assemble the crank and rods. But it seems kind of futile if it's all hidden when the engine is fully assembled.

Multipiece crank! That's a clever trick! But I agree it is futile.
Thanks, Ismael

That is so you can add gas when it is completed. 😎

I've just signed up for the full build. The Lotus 49A is one of my all time favorite cars especially with Clark driving it. I've got not one but two Ebbro 1/20 kits just waiting for at least one to hit my bench. Your build most likely will be my kick start.
I've thought about buying one of a few 1/20 scale MFH multi media kit, but honestly I have nearly a zero confidence level of finishing it. I've pretty much only worked with styrene plastic, resin detail parts, and white metal only once, which wasn't a good experience including keeping all the various parts glued together. I'm hoping to learn a lot of the basics from your build, so I'll be asking a ton of questions.
I'm really looking forward to your next update.

That is so you can add gas when it is completed. 😎 I agree with Sam! I'm a little disappointed with the kit, they give you a full engine, no fuel cell and fuel lines to see if the engine will start! You're almost there with that kit! LOL! This looks to be a great build, I'll keep an eye on this one!

The piston pins look dodgy and I did not see any piston rings. I wouldn't try to start it!

A great Driver and VERY cool car. Diorama sounds like a good place for those "EXTRA LEFT OVER PARTS" ( that you don't want to see after putting the engine back together). This is going to be a FUN one to watch for sure...

Is there any way to make the engine turn over after it's assembled? If you could rotate the rear wheels and make the engine turn as well, maybe a head could be made removable to show the pistons going up and down. Just a thought. I WILL get a MFH kit and build it someday! Please keep us posted on this one, it looks to be a wild ride!

YAY...I finally got my internet back. There was a break somewhere upstream from me that took them a bit to find. Joel....I've got the Ebbro 49 also, which I might even build at the same time. Since I will be spraying parts, I might as well do them all. Please ask all the questions you want. I don't know all the answers, but I'm still learning. Brian...The engine could turn over. In fact, it's got gears for the camshafts even. But no way to turn the rear wheels because of the resin gear box. The MFH book has lots of great pictures. I especially like this one because it shows the suspension doing its job.
Another great detail shot
I've gotten a bit more done since the last update. Not having internet means more bench time...LOL Engine block assembled. Cylinder heads Left side auxillary parts. They haven't been glued yet. I was just making sure everything lines up first. Then paint and assembly. Basic block assembled. A lot of building a MFH kit is drilling holes. To that end it helps to have a lot of drills ready to go. I've gotten quite the collection of pin vises. LOL This arrived last Friday. It's a magnetic tumbler. You throw the parts in a solution with a bunch of tiny pins and turn it on. When it's done, the parts come out polished. I'll take pics of the before and after effects of it's first use.

Just amazing. The engine looks about as real as you can get.
Ok, 1st round of questions. 1-The Magnetic tumbler answers my question about how you properly polish the metal part. If one doesn't have a tumbler what method or methods would work with a lot of elbow grease?
2- Are you using various thicknesses of CCA glue to glue all those metal parts, or are other glues like epoxies being used?
