Ron, The wheels do indeed look great, as does the mock up. Joel

Looking good Ron! If I may offer a humble suggestion, The mesh look great but in the reference it is flush with the top of the bodywork. Maybe grinding a bit the underside of the body to reduce the thickness or a more complex approach, making the mesh to fall thru and glue in place or support from the bottom. Just a suggestion as it is looking really good!
Thanks, Ismael

I can say that I worked for hours trying to get the fall through method to work but failed miserably. I just didn't have any cutters strong yet precise enough to get the cuts I needed to get the flush look so in the interest of moving the build along I just did it this way. I'm just trying to build a presentable shelf model out of this so dead nuts accuracy isn't that important to me at this point. As always Thanks! - Ron

I've purchased fine screens from e-Bay (search for "fine screen"). You can find brass and stainless in various mesh sizes, cuts easily with scissors, esp. the brass. Might make the flush-mounting easier. I like your project so far, please keep us posted on your progress!

I found some excellent fine screen at the local supermarket! I saw these permanent coffee filters that are made from brass or metal screen, they provide enough for many uses and will last a while. I use it to make the oil cooler in this pic. Also in the fender vents and radiators.. when they had them on clearance for a dollar or two (regular price $4.} I bought about six.. Chris

Got some bench time today and decided to cobble up some exhaust stacks for it. Remember this is a curbside build...
I had some aluminum tube that looked about right
A few pieces of scrap sheet for a base and some styrene rod for mounting pins
This might work
Heck yea. Not perfect for sure but suits my needs well.
As always thanks for following.

this will look great especially next to a 2A,2D, ect. We don't see many Chaparrals being done. My Cox 2A is in the wings waiting...

Worked on the screens a little, got them a little more flush.
Made up a bracket and cut a slot for the wing actuator
Was looking at the kit decals and saw number roundels are a bit yellowed...
Remembered I had an old Cady sheet stashed away so I dug it out for the build.
Having fun with this one!

ron,
i really like what you are doing here, especially your screen work, VERY clean sir! along with what you have done to the wheels here again, very sharp and precise. If and i only mention this hopefully to enhance your kit more, not knowing your familiarity with Chaparrals. may i make a suggestion before your final paint? IF you haven't already considered this. these cars were not solid white, they were a very light ivory. anywhere from 4-8 DROPS of light brown or tan added to your blend before laying down your final coats. have a sheet of typing paper close by to compare with. i meant NO disrespect with my comments. other than that rock on!

Ron, When I 1st looked at the Cady sheet, it also looked Yellowed. Then I took a more careful look at the entire picture. Both the bottle caps and the cabinet doors (?) have a Yellowish hue to them. So comparing them to the decal sheet, I'd venture to say that up close and personal, the decals are indeed white.

Hmmmmm...Interesting. I didn't know that, I just assumed they were bright white as they sometimes appear in pictures and it's already painted. Thanks for the info!
Would this Tamiya TS-7 Racing white be close to correct? Pictured here next to TS-26 Pure white which I used.
