Chris, Looking real good.
But I do have one question for you. My usual method of clear coating with Mr. Hobby Super Clear, and thinned with Mr. Hobby #400 Thinner/Self leveler, is to do a few tack coats a few min apart. Then start the 1st 2 wet coats with 10 min between coats as the lacquer has already set up. The 3rd and final coat is really wet, and I let it dry and cure for 72 hours. Then I start the rubbing out, polishing, and finally waxing stages, as the Self Leveling thinner really makes the clear gloss lay down perfectly flat during the drying process. Is there a reason why you wait so long between coats?

Being lazy and always getting great results with Testors 1834 Ultra wet clear lacquer spray cans I like to let it cure in between coats also the weather here can be extreme for painting right now the daily high is 56 degrees and the winds can gust up to 50mph, so I have to pick and choose days when the wind is down and the temp is more conducive to spraying anything.. I do spray in my shop with the spray booth which keeps the dust down, even though the shop is dry walled and insulated it still gets cold in there.. Wet sanding is no problem and normally I get a great result that doesnt even require polishing or sanding but in this case not so.. I didnt do either on these two .... Chris

I wanted to add a bit, this car had a very complex paint job both airbrushed , spray can and spray can clear, not to mention two color paint, fogging and candie paints, I was not happy with the result at first, my wife, Yolanda told me, "You are a great builder, dont just settle, work on it and eventually you will get the finish you desire!" Words of wisdom as I was initially ready to trash it... I did work on it for many hours until it was perfect and I was very happy. I think we tend to want to wrap up a project so we have something to show or put on the shelf, this car was 19 months in the works, most of the car was scratchbuilt and built to 2000 NHRA Nitro Coupe rules book.. so I was very upset that the paint wasnt up to my standards..then Yolanda told me those words.. The car won many awards, both detail, paint and best of show so I guess she was right... Wow I am glad she doesnt read this...LoL. Chris

Chris, I see your points. I'm just not at the point of being able to paint and then clearcoat without needing prep work between primer/color/clear. I hope to get a lot better over the next few years, but cars and military modeling are totally at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
As of right now, my Porsche 956 finish is by far the best I've ever accomplished. Unless I screw something up, I honestly feel it's contest quality. Which is a far cry from expecting to automatically place after what I've seen in a few contests this past year.
your Nitro Coupe looks amazing in build/detailing/paint & finish. I only wish my wife was supportive of my two hobbies, but it is, what it is.
